Journal and Storybook

Every session becomes a chapter in a book, with pictures, that your players can reread.

Immerse · Combat FX

Forty-six ways to land a hit, on Adventurer and Warlord.

Pick your targets, choose an effect and press play. Slash, Fireball, Ray of Frost, Lightning, Radiant, Psychic and more play over a darkened table, with sound, and every player sees and hears it at the same moment.

  • The camera follows the action, even to targets off screen, then returns to your view.
  • Hidden tokens stay hidden. Players never see what you have not revealed.
  • Five groups: Physical, Elemental, Magic, Status and Conditions.
  • Every paid plan plays all 46. Warlord adds the signature layer below.
  • Use Sleep, Poison and Stun outside combat, to tell the story as well as fight it.
The Combat FX panel on a Warlord plan, open on the Conditions tab, with eleven condition effects from Charmed to Concentrating, four hero targets selected, a Warlord FX checkbox and Token FX and Area FX tabs
Pick targets, pick an effect, press play. 46 effects in five groups.
A Fireball effect engulfing two tokens, captioned Engulfed in flames

Fireball

Whoever you pick, wherever they stand. The table dims and the flames take over.

A Radiant effect shining on a token, captioned Smitten by radiant light

Radiant

Physical, elemental, magic and status effects, each with its own look and sound.

The player screen: the turn card, the creature list and a clear view of the map with the party strip, where every effect plays too

On every screen

Players see and hear every effect on their own device, wherever they are looking.

Immerse · New: Signature FX

The table does not just react. It performs.

Adventurer plays every effect. Warlord stages them: the same effects and the same results, with a richer layer drawn on top for the whole table.

Cinematic moments

A killing blow and a critical hit get a staged beat of their own, with a caption the whole table reads, so the big moments feel big.

Signature effects

Every one of the 46 effects has a richer Warlord version: more punch, shockwaves and sparks, with fire that ignites the whole token.

Ripple choreography

When an effect hits several targets, it ripples through them one after another instead of landing all at once.

Lingering auras

A poisoned token keeps a faint bubbling, a burning one keeps its embers, a frightened one a flicker of shadow, for as long as the condition lasts.

Hero signatures

Give each hero a flourish of their own. You switch them on for the table, and everyone sees them play.

Signature area looks

Spheres, cones and lines get richer, brighter looks with a second ring that keeps turning.

  • Staging only. It never changes a roll, a hit point or a result, and the same fight plays without it. A Warlord checkbox in the Combat FX panel lets you choose the signature or the regular version.
  • Every effect respects reduced motion and the Full, Quick and Off setting for your device, and Esc skips an effect.
  • Adventurer and the free trial get one signature moment each session, marked Warlord, so you can see what it adds.

Immerse · New: Condition effects

Show the condition, don’t just tick it.

Eleven new effects give each condition in the rules its own look and sound: Charmed, Frightened, Blinded, Deafened, Paralyzed, Restrained, Grappled, Knocked Prone, Petrified, Invisible and Concentrating. Poisoned, Stunned and Unconscious use the Poison, Stun and Sleep effects you already have.

Quick FX in the conditions panel

Tick a condition on a token and an FX button appears beside its round counter. One press plays the effect on that token, with no need to open the Combat FX panel.

  • Turn on auto-play and the effect plays the moment you add a condition (a setting for your own device).
  • Every condition works on Adventurer and Warlord. The free trial plays Charmed, Frightened, Poisoned, Stunned and Incapacitated.
  • Only the Game Master sees the FX buttons. Players see the effect, hear it and carry on.
The Conditions section of a character sheet with Blinded and Restrained ticked, each with a round counter and an FX button, plus options to play the effect when a condition is added, show condition markers on the map, switch on lingering auras, pick a signature flourish and play hero signatures
Conditions, round counters, a quick FX button for each, and the Warlord auras and hero signatures switches.
Four hero tokens on a map, each with a glyph chip above it and a soft coloured glow: a heart on Charmed, an exclamation mark on Frightened, a lightning bolt on Paralyzed and a chain on Restrained
A glyph and a soft glow keep each condition visible.

Lingering markers

Turn on condition markers and every token carries a small glyph for each condition it is under, plus a soft coloured glow, for as long as the condition lasts. The whole table sees them, so nobody has to ask who is still frightened.

  • One switch for the table, in the Conditions section of any token.
  • Adventurer and Warlord mark every condition. The free trial marks Charmed. Warlord upgrades the markers to lingering auras.
  • With reduced motion on, the glow stays still.

Immerse · New: effects that follow the rules

Type the damage. The table sees it land.

Warfront already applies the damage, the resistances and the saves. On Adventurer and Warlord, the effect plays too.

The damage entry with an amount and a Fire damage type

Auto-play Combat FX on typed damage

Turn on one switch in Combat helpers and a typed hit plays the effect that matches its damage type, such as fire, frost, lightning, poison or radiant. You choose it per device, so you can keep it for the big moments.

  • Plays only when damage is actually dealt, with matching effects for all thirteen damage types
  • Players see and hear it on their own screens
  • Hidden tokens stay hidden

Animated looks for every area

Drop a sphere, cone or line and give it a look of its own. The free trial gets Plain, Fire burst and Fog. Adventurer opens every standard look and animation, so a Fireball looks like one, and Warlord adds signature looks on top.

  • Saves and damage for everyone inside work on every plan
  • Standard looks are on Adventurer and Warlord, and signature looks are the Warlord part
  • Areas can be hidden from players until you show them

Chronicle drafts

When you conclude an encounter on Warlord, Warfront drafts up to three moments for each hero, such as a natural 20 or last hero standing, and adds a Deeds tally. Nothing joins a hero’s Chronicle until its player accepts it.

Immerse · Table music and ambience

Set the scene, then let it play.

Start a track, layer in the weather, and let one click set the mood: Camp at night, Storm at sea, Dark dungeon. Everyone at the table hears it, and each player sets their own volume.

  • Twenty licensed tracks, fifteen ambient sounds and eight one-click scenes.
  • Upload your own MP3, OGG or M4A files: up to 20 MB per track and 12 tracks per table.
  • Keep it playing while you run the table. Minimize the panel and the music carries on.

Remember · Campaign Journal

Every session becomes a chapter.

Notes tied to an encounter disappear when you delete it. The Campaign Journal keeps your story at the table level, so what matters outlives every map and every fight. Every plan can keep one. Warlord turns it into a Storybook.

  • Entries, chapters, tags, in-world dates and search, with Markdown export.
  • Bring in notes from encounters and world maps. Warfront asks before you delete anything that has notes in it.
  • Conclude an encounter to write its recap straight into the Journal, with one version for you and a spoiler-free version for the party.
  • Share on your terms: keep an entry to yourself, share it with everyone or chosen players, or reveal it at a set time.

  • Share with players, chosen players or on a timer
  • Cover icon and colour
  • Your Journals page, with search across all of them
  • Markdown export
  • A preview of your own notes as a Storybook, and a sample Storybook

  • Up to 1,000 entries per table

Screens show the Eldervane sample Journal, which is demo content you can add to any table.

Run · Universal VTT import

Bring a finished map with its walls and lights.

Many map makers publish Universal VTT files with the walls, doors and lights already built in. On Warlord, import one and Warfront turns them into walls, doors and lights on your battle map. No tracing by hand.

  • Reads .dd2vtt and .uvtt files
  • Doors come in closed or open, as the file says, and work with a click
  • Add them to what you have, or replace it
  • Save the map picture from the file and use it as your map

Dynamic lighting itself, with hand-drawn walls and lights, is on every plan.

Questions

About Warlord.

Do my players need Warlord to see the effects and hear the music?

No. Players never pay. When the Game Master plays an effect or starts a track, everyone at the table sees and hears it, signature version included, and each player sets their own volume.

Can I try Combat FX and music before I upgrade?

Yes. During your free trial you can play Slash, Poison, Stun, Charmed, Radiant Smite, Explosion and Frightened, the Evening track with the Camp at night scene, and one Warlord signature moment each session. Adventurer unlocks all 46 effects. The rest is shown, locked, with one click to upgrade.

What is the difference between Combat FX on Adventurer and on Warlord?

Adventurer plays all 46 combat and condition effects and matches them to your attacks, spells, heals, kills and conditions. Warlord adds the signature layer on top: a richer version of every effect, cinematic moments for kills and critical hits, ripple choreography across several targets, lingering condition auras, hero signatures and signature area looks. The signature layer is staging only, so it never changes a result.

Can I use my own music?

Yes, on Warlord. Upload MP3, OGG or M4A files, up to 20 MB per track and 12 tracks per table. Only upload music you have the right to use. Your uploads count toward your storage.

Can my players read the Journal?

Yes, whatever you share. Keep an entry to yourself, share it with everyone or chosen players, or set a time for it to be revealed. Players never see your GM-only notes, and when you are on Warlord every player sees the Storybook look.

What happens to my Journal if I leave Warlord?

Nothing is deleted. Your entries and pictures are kept, the Storybook goes back to a plain reading view and the public link stops working. If you hold more entries than your plan allows you can still edit and delete them, but not add new ones until you are under the limit. Upgrade again and the Storybook look returns.
